What is home staging or home styling?
Home staging or home styling is the process of preparing your home to go on the market for sale. When people think of home staging or home styling, they generally think of hiring furniture to present the home for sale.

At housecandy, we look at the bigger picture and offer a complete solution by organising tradespeople, de-cluttering and organising, colour and style advice, garden makeovers and furniture hire.

You have one chance at a first impression so it has to count. Not only that, staging or styling your home for sale is known to increase the sale price anywhere between 5% and 15%.

Is it expensive?
The amount you spend on staging or styling your home will depend on your budget. As a rough guide, 1% of the value of your home is all you would need to make a significant difference. If the home wasn’t selling and you had to reduce the price, this would be more than the amount you could have spent making some small improvements.

What do I do with my furniture if I’m hiring some?
Again, at housecandy we believe in using as much of the existing pieces as possible to keep the costs down. However, we have aligned ourselves with a reputable removable company who can accommodate temporary storage for the items you wish to take with you.

Alternatively, you can donate, sell or leave items out for the next council collection day.

I have so much stuff; I don’t know where to start?
De-cluttering can be the most time consuming and daunting part of getting ready to sell a house or renovating. It is also the most necessary part. We can help you de-clutter and organise.

Surely I can stage my own home?
If you could detach yourself from particular items in your home you probably could do this yourself. From your perspective it would be a shame to store the rug that grandma gave us and the photo that was taking on the ski trip etc.

The things that you thought you would do when you got around to it remain to be done because life gets busy, right. Wrong, buyers don’t care about any of this. If they are going to pay GOOD money, unless they are buying a knockdown, they need to see themselves living in it and enjoying what the home has to offer. If they are to pay GREAT money, they need to fall in love with it.

Having dealt with buyers and vendors I understand the emotional and stressful journey it can be so rest assured that we understand buyers intrinsically and are aware of your concerns and your aim, to sell the house for the best price possible, so that’s what we focus on.

Is it cheaper to renovate or to build a new home?
Good question and the answers vary from property to property. To answer this question you would need to do a feasibility assessment on both options taking into account ALL costs before jumping in.
